The Importance of Nature

Hi again. Today I am lazing in the afternoon sun gazing up at the sky, watching the clouds form their shape over and over again. It is nice to feel nature around me. I can hear the wind rustle the trees and the buzzing bees. The blue sky makes me feel cool and calm and the ground beneath me feels solid and still, like nothing is moving, but the sky feels full of energy. Of course that is an illusion because the ground is also full of life and movement of all kinds imaginable. Ants, worms, bugs and simply the grass growing its own way.

The environment is so magnificent yet... it won't be magnificent forever if we don't stop to think of how we can take care of it. We need to stop burning fossil fuels, take care of our water supply and consider using less rather than always wanting more, more more.

So Much to Tell You by John Marsden

Hi again. Today I am doing a book recommendation for the book 'So Much to Tell You', by John Marsden. It is a story about a mute girl who writes a diary and the story is told through her diary entries. It is a story that teaches you about empathy, relationships, communication and dealing with difficulties. I like this book because it has a lot of emotion and feelings in it making it enjoyable to read. The book does have certain mild themes considering the character is fourteen. I really like this book and I would recommend it for children from 11 years and older.

"She has thoughts. She has feelings. But she has no voice."

Rating: ***** 5/5 stars
Age: 11 years and up
Quality: A high quality book that has a lot to teach people.

Thanks for reading, please try this book. I hope you enjoy it.

Quirky Quote

" I keep  telling myself that I'm a human being, an imperfect human being who's not made to look like a doll, and that who I am as a person is more important than whether at that moment I have a nice figure"

Emma Watson

Personally I think Emma Watson is a very inspiring woman. She is passionate about what she believes and this quote is a message a lot of people need. What are your thoughts?

Robotics and Why Smart is the New Cool

Hi again. Today I thought I would tell you a little bit about the technology side of stuff I do at school. So basically I am in a club called the Innovation Cell. We use EV3 robots and work in groups. Some people might think that robotics is a bit 'nerdy' but they may not realise that 'smart' is the new 'cool'. By the time we finish school, a lot of jobs will involve either working alongside, or programming robots. And technology isn't just for boys. It's lots of fun and gets your brain active. The robot below is called Fifi.

Our robot Fifi
Fifi is not as detailed as some of the EV3s we have. We do learning missions and challenges to exercise our brains and learn about programming. Recently we have been doing the space challenge. Check out the video below showing one of our attempts.

Our attempt at the space challenge.

The next video is from an organisation called Boston Dynamics. Their robots are amazing. Have a look at what this one can do.

Check out this video what a neat robot

Does your school have a robotics or technology club? If so, you should get involved. Here are four great reasons why:

  1. Technology is a great brain exercise and will help you get smarter.
  2. You'll be able to impress people with your cool skills.
  3. You will be gaining knowledge that will help you once you finish school.
  4. You will have lots of fun.

Don't forget...smart is the new cool, always look for ways to learn new things and use your brain.

Crochet and the Art of Chilling Out

Hi Guys today I am chilling out on my bed which is covered in a awesome granny crochet blanket. I am also wearing a crochet poncho and I have crochet slippers which are excellent for relaxing in winter. I actually picked up these treasures in an op shop, what a find! The slippers are really comfortable and just slip over your feet. The poncho does a great job of keeping you warm and the blanket looks great on a bed for decoration.

In this photo you can see what the slippers look like when they are on. I am reading Friday Barnes which is one of my all time fave series. So why don't you try chilling out one weekend. Grab your favourite book and find a spot to just relax and chill out. It is fun!

The Benefits of Persistence

Hi everyone, it's me again. So in the school holidays I went rollerskating for the fourth time. When I first started rollerskating earlier this year, I spent most of my time either falling over or desperately holding onto the wall. The second time I went I skated around the outside holding onto the barrier, inching along step by step as six year old speedsters zoomed past me. Talk about embarrassing! The third time I took baby steps, concentrating on staying on my feet, which I did. I didn't fall over once that time, which was great. The fourth time I actually did it, I could skate without holding on. I still need a bit of practice and am pretty slow, but I persisted and persisted until I finally could do it.

Now you might be wondering why I'm talking about all this. Well, I just wanted to say that if you want to achieve something you should never give up. Always try because if you put in the effort you will eventually get what you hoped for.

Remember to always keep trying!

Back To School Bullies and Nasties

Hi everyone. I know some of you might be worried about going back to school because you have either been bullied or people are nasty to you. Lets face it some kids are just plain mean. Everyone in their life has had someone be nasty or bully them. Unfortunately, it is just a fact of life. At times you might feel like the world is going to end. Sometimes you even believe what the bully says.

Here are some tips for you that might help:
  • Ignore them.
  • Don't let them know it is bothering you.
  • Talk to an adult if it gets worse.
  • Don't hang around with them.
  • Remember that the bully is insecure and is only being mean to make themselves feel powerful.
  • You don't deserve it so keep out of their way.

Don't put up with bullies. Remember that what they are saying is not true and it is their problem, not yours. Go back to school with a positive face on, stand up for yourself and most of all talk to an adult if you are not coping. If you need more help or advice, check out this website.

Colourful Inspiration

Hi everyone, it's me again. Today I thought I would talk about decorating your room in an inspirational way. Last year I did a big room revamp, which is an activity I often do. Why, you might ask?  Well I hate having the same feeling every time I walk into my bedroom. Boring! :(  So anyway, on this particular revamp mum and I had an idea. We thought we could cut or print out all my favourite quotes and pics and stick them on the wall. Now I have a section of my wall completely covered in 'inspiration' as I like to call it. Sometimes it is just nice to sit and look at it or read it.

My walls...

Also after we had finished that we were inspired by this idea and pondered where else in the house we could 'inspire'. We decided the toilet. I mean come on, toilets are always boring, but when there is something on the wall I find I always read it over and over again. So when something 'inspiring' is there, a quote for example, a good or powerful message is being stuck into your head every time you read it.

Toilet wall...

I hope this inspired you to think about your room or home. If you have already done something similar that is awesome you can let me know by commenting.
