Summer Holidays

Hi everyone. As some of you may know I live in Australia, and for those who don't know you have just found out. Because I live in Australia it is summer and so I am on summer holidays but now I am in my last week which makes me really sad 😡. I like summer holidays because...
  • My  birthday is in them.
  • I do many exciting things.
  • I don't have to rush.
  • The weather is perfect to swim in the pool and at the beach.
  • I can totally forget about school.
  • I have eight weeks away from the people at school that I don't like.

I am also looking forward to going back to school, which I didn't think I'd say at the end of last year. Last year I was in grade seven which was my first year of high school. It was a challenge to get used to the differences after so long at primary school. I turned thirteen this month so I am now a teenager, which is exciting. I have just found out my new classes and teachers for year eight and I am surprisingly excited about getting back into the school routine next week.

I think you may be wondering what I actually did on the holidays. Well I competed in a state competition for the 4 x100 relay. I have circled myself in the photo below. It was really fun being able to run and even though we didn't win we all still had fun and surprisingly I wasn't nervous at all. (I am normally a nervous wreck before races).

We also went for a visit to a local beach but we didn't swim because it was quite windy so we just had a walk along the beach. We also had fish and chips while we were there too. Here are some photos of me on the beach.

My mum, sister and I went to visit a museum in the city and it had an exhibition of contemporary paintings from China and Hong Kong. It was really fun because they had some that were turned into videos. The air conditioning in the museum was really cold though!

My favourite artwork in the exhibition

We also went to a Taoist temple and I have put photos of it on my Instagram. It was cool because it was like really being in China. I felt so peaceful and calm and relaxed as I walked through the temple looking at all the paintings, sculptures, lifelike gods and goddesses sitting proud watching over everyone with incense burning and their offerings below them. Here is a picture of me in the courtyard of the temple.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. What have you guys been up to lately? I am sorry that not many posts have been popping up, I will try to do more soon.

Quirky Quinoa Porridge

Hi guys today I am going to share with you a recipe for quinoa porridge. I have been trying to find healthy alternatives to my normal meals. Quinoa is an ancient South American grain and is considered a super-food. It is a complete protein which makes it excellent for vegetarians and vegans. It also has high levels of iron and other vitamins and minerals, which makes it very healthy. It is cooked in a similar way to rice. The good news is that quinoa is delicious and can be used in many ways. One of my favourites is porridge.

Porridge served

This recipe is for a single serve. If you are making it for more than one, just multiply the ingredients by the number of serves you would like.

What you will need:
  • 1/2 a cup of quinoa flakes
  • 1 cup of water
  • Maple syrup or honey, to taste
  • Your choice of dairy free milk alternatives
  • Choice of seasonal berries or other fruits

Method:
  1. Measure out 1/2 a cup of quinoa flakes and place them in a small saucepan.
  2. Place 1 cup of water in the saucepan.
  3. Bring the porridge to the boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer for approximately 2 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
  4. Place porridge in a bowl and add your choice of milk and maple syrup or honey, to taste.
  5. Serve with seasonal berries or fruit.
Note: If you don't have quinoa flakes this recipe will work exactly the same using rice flakes or rolled oats.

I hope you get to try this gluten free, vegan and extremely healthy recipe. What is your favourite healthy food? Comment down below.

I Heart Nature

Nature is all around us. We are nature. What you eat for dinner is nature. That stone you pick up on a bush walk and take home is nature. The weather is nature. The water we drink when we are thirsty is part of nature. That flower you pick on the way to school is nature. The air we breath is nature. If nature is all around us and we rely on it to survive why do we treat it badly? Why do we treat it like it is something we will always have? If we don't care about water and leave the tap running we will eventually run out. Trees help us to breath and keep the air clean. What happens when they are chopped down by greedy people. We take nature for granted. We act like it always will be there. If we don't conserve it and save it, it will run out and you will have wished you didn't think leaving your tap running, or throwing rubbish on the ground was okay.

Sorry about the lack of recent posts, I've been busy with exams but luckily I'm now on summer holidays. Thanks for reading my post I hope it made you think because it is often something us humans forget about.

I am Back! (and what I've been up to)

Hey guys! I am back and geez it has been a while. I apologise for my terrible lack of blog posts and Instagram pics. I will now explain why I have been away soooooo long...

First of all school work, The school work is ridiculous. I have huge assignments with just one week to complete them. My school finishes next week and I am so excited.  Are you excited for Christmas? I know I can't wait. Some of you may not be finishing school and some of you may be going into winter so I will stop bragging. I will be sure to post more updates on that.

Second of all: Athletics. Quite a lot of athletics. I have had to miss it the past week because of school work. I love athletics or track and field as some of you may call it. I mostly like the running though like 100m, 70m (sadly this event doesn't exist in the Olympics) and 200m. I also like triple jump and discus. I have been doing athletics since last year. I started athletics at my local Little Athletics club. One of my big inspirations for athletics track especially is Isis Holt. Some of you may not know who Isis Holt is. She is a 15 year old Australian Paralympic Athlete who has Cerebral Palsy, Cerebral palsy is a condition that effects muscle coordination. Imagine running! Isis Holt is extremely fast and Smashed two world records at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha and recently ran in the Rio 2016 Paralympics and won silver in both of her events.

Anyway you may be wondering why I am writing this? I am writing this because my biggest ambition in life it to be like Isis. Although that will never happen all I can do is dream. As I mentioned before I have only started competitive athletics last year, although I have enjoyed running since I started primary school. Back in the younger grades at sports days I didn't really know what was happening. We only had about a 60 metre track and we just ran. It wasn't until grade five that I really noticed how much I liked running. That year we ran on an actual 100 and 200 metre track. It was a blast! I won both of my events 100m and 200m. Year six was not much success. It was wet and rainy and I don't run well on wet grass tracks. :(  For those who want the present, a couple of weeks ago I competed in the Met North regional relay competition. Now the funny thing with this is... I ran with under 14 girls in the 4 by 100 so yes, girls a whole year older than me. I was really scared at first. I thought I had no chance at all whatsoever. So as I stood at that start line inside my head going "well here goes nothing." And then my memory of Isis popped up. I thought about her victory... 'set' I can do this I thought, I really can... 'bang!' I just ran my hardest, and we came third as a team. So we are off to the State relays competition now. That is if all of us can make it of course. Anyway I hope you enjoyed reading this. Who is an inspiration for you? Write your answer in the comments below. I promise to post more often now. Bye Bye!

Jump into nature

Hi guys, I went to the mountains a couple of weeks ago. It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by so much nature. It is important to spend time in nature because it is good for our health and you can really appreciate the world you live in.

You might be wondering what the position I am standing in means? Nothing in particular. I stood like that the same way on two different mountains because it feels like you are hugging nature. The light breeze hits your face and you feel like you can fly. Thanks for reading this post I will write more about my visit to the mountains soon.

Shout outs go to...

Thanks so much for your support guys.

Managing the school work load

Hi everyone I am back today I will give you some tips for managing the school work load and stress

Tips for managing school work load and stress

  • Don't (and I mean definitely don't) leave all of the work until the last minute, it just causes unneeded stress.
  • Keep a list or diary when you get assignments or homework so you don't forget about them.
  • Keep note of exam dates and other due dates.
  • Study for exams so you are confident with the content.
  • Be positive.
  • Ask if you don't understand something.
  • DON'T STRESS OUT! Be cool about it but not cool to the point of not caring.
  • Have fun and learn.
A tip for bloggers who also go to school

It can be hard to blog with school workloads, and during assessment time it becomes even harder. One way to manage posting is do a lot of posts ahead of time then schedule them for during the term!

I hope this advice helps you. How do you manage your work load? Comment down below.
