Be Ready For Braces

Hi again. I recently had braces put on. I had wished and wished for them for such a long time. It is cool because you get to pick your favourite colours. But when I got them I soon had second thoughts. In the first week you have them they hurt and they are really annoying. For me I had an aching mouth as well as rubbing and getting ulcers. At the back of your molars, the wire sticks out so it poked my skin of the inside of my cheek. I tried to use dental wax to stop the rubbing, but often it would not stick so I eventually gave up. Yesterday I went to the orthodontist and he cut the wires shorter for me and now they feel soooo much better. Eventually you get used to them and it's like they're not there.

Remember the first three days are not how it is always going to be.

My Braces. I chose Fluro pink and Teal. Some of my fave colours.
So who else has braces? Tell me by commenting down below.

Tostadas Recipe - Mexican Delight

Hi People. Who Loves Mexican food? The answer is meeee. I love it sooo much that I am going to share my tostada recipe with you.

Yum Yum

So here is what you will need...
  • 400g can of refried beans
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 packet of gluten free white corn tortillas
  • lettuce
For the Tomato Salsa
  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander (we didn't have any so made it this time without)
  • 1 tbs lime juice
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • garlic and chilli could be added if you wish
For the Guacamole
  • 1 - 2 avocadoes, stone removed
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin

And this is what you need to do...

1. Pre-heat the oven to 100C.

2.  Make the tomato salsa by chopping the tomato into small cubes and putting it in a bowl.  Add the remaining salsa ingredients and mix well.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.

3.  Make the guacamole by scooping out the avocado into a bowl and adding the lime juice.  Mash with a fork then add cumin and mix well.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4.  Use about one lettuce leaf per person. Roll them up and slice finely then put aside ready to make the tostadas.

5.  Prepare the bean puree by emptying the can into a small saucepan with the cumin and water.  Mix over a low heat until smooth and warmed.

6. Heat 1cm of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.  Use tongs to place the tortillas in the pan one at a time.  Cook for about 20 seconds and then turn over.  Cook for a further 20 seconds.  The tortilla should be golden, slightly puffed up and crispy.  Remove from the oil and drain on paper towel before placing on a tray in the oven to keep warm.  Repeat with the remaining tortillas.

7.  Time to construct the tortillas.  Spread some bean puree on each tortilla, top with lettuce, guacamole and a spoonful of salsa.  Serve immediately while warm and crispy.

Quirky Quote

"You are unique,
and if that is not fulfilled,
    then something has been lost"

~Martha Graham~

Personally I think this quote relates to everything I believe in. I don't know much about Martha Graham but she seems like a really inspiring woman. For people who like dance she might inspire you because she was a modern dancer and choreographer. When  I found this quote I jumped at it because it has such a powerful message. What are your thoughts?

Thrifty Chick - Winter Fantasy

Hi Guys. For those of you who aren't thrifty chicks, why not become one? Shopping at op shops is good for many different reasons. Whether they are cheap or expensive, most of the clothes you buy new in stores have been made in poor working conditions, sometimes even by children who have to miss out on their education. How awful! So when buying clothes at the op shop you are helping stop people from suffering but you are also making a difference to the environment. Even making one T-shirt uses a lot of resources, especially water. Also the shirt you buy at an op shop is pre-loved which means somebody loved it before you. That one item of clothing could have travelled the world.

It is getting closer to the middle of winter here so... I have bought some jackets and other winter requirements from an op shop.

Padded Parker gloves and purple scarf...

This Parker is comfortable and warm. With a cute little style. I love the scarf because it is a soft flowing material, making it comfortable to wear. And well... the gloves are just to decorate. Pretty cute hey?

Dressy Jacket and green scarf...

This jacket is a bit dressier and can be worn out to things such as parties. The green scarf goes well with the jacket.

If you love op shopping you are amazing because you are helping to make the world a better place. Tell me if you have found anything cool in an op shop by commenting below.
